Project: Ulster Bank Refurbishment and Restoration Programme
Client: Ulster Bank
Devity Contract Services carried out external and internal work to over 15 Ulster Bank buildings throughout Ireland. This included works to listed buildings such as; roof replacements, window replacements, part demolitions, extensions and office refurbishments, at locations such as O'Connell St, Dublin, Limerick, Longford and Banbridge.
Project: Ulster Bank Remedial Works - Longford
Client: Ulster Bank
The Ulster Bank, Longford is a listed protected structure situated in the Main Street, Longford Town. It is an attached four-bay, three-storey bank constructed in 1865 and consists of recessed single-storey ashlar limestone screen walls having niches to either side.
Devity’s first role was to engage with planners, employ a conservation architect, and obtain a Section 57 Declaration Application for the repair of the main building walls and roof areas.
The works were phased and arranged with the client in a manner which ensured that the branch operations were not interfered with.With appropriate permits to work in place the entire building was scaffolded and hoarding put in place to ensure the safe passage of pedestrian and road traffic.
Works included:
Repairs of Roofs, lead hip detail, lead aprons to chimneys, including lead flashings.
Leadwork to flat roof and hip valleys.
Repairs to front window sills/hoods. This involved injecting an Epoxy resin into various cracks at stone hoods and sills and a special repair mortar to match in with the existing stonework,was used for the repair of surface cracks
Repointing - Natural Hydraulic Lime was used.
Repair to rainwater goods with aluminium type replacement.
Our skilled joiners completed extensive repair work to all timber windows, which were in a state of disrepair requiring immediate attention. These works involved carefully cutting out the damaged areas with particular care to not breaking the glass. These areas were carefully filled with an exact replica, hand-planed to match the existing. After splicing, the frames were primed and coated twice with a protective exterior paint.

Client: Ulster Bank
This contract was for the refurbishment and remedial works to the listed building, Ulster Bank in Banbridge. This building is a neo-Baroque style three-bay two-storey terraced red-brick Ulster Bank, dated 1920. The original detailing and fabric were largely intact and much of its original character survives.
At planning stage Devity Contract Services liaised with planning, building control and the Historic Environment Division. Once the appropriate permits to work were received works were phased and arranged with the client in a manner which ensured that the branch operations were not altered.
Works included:
Repair works to the façade, the removal and replacement of existing roof and associated repairs.
The roof was approaching the end of its life and a full replacement was needed. Brickwork was loose in places which effected the stability of the parapet capping stones. A general clean and refurbishment was needed in areas all over the building i.e. chimneys, joints.
Timber hoarding was erected to maintain safe access to the bank and ATM and also to prevent any authorised access to scaffold and protect pedestrian and road traffic.
Cleaning down existing brickwork and rake out joints of friable areas of pointing.
Existing large, feature corbels from high-level cope parapet were carefully removed and either replaced on a like for like basis, or repaired with specialist mortars as agreed with a conservation architect. All feature masonry was dowelled and resin anchored in place.

Significant leadwork repairs which were carried out by specialist subcontractors in accordance with the UK. Lead Sheet Association and their publication Lead Sheet Manual.
